Junior and Senior League Stats are located under the News tab on the home page.
It is the mission of the Burlington Girls softball League to offer a source of recreation while improving the general skill level and future opportunities of the girls participating in this league. This is achieved through the advancement of its coaches in improved coaching techniques and increased knowledge of the game, as well as the improved quality of pitching through a pitching school. It is toward these ends that the following coaches guidelines are offered.
1. Each coach is expected to have general knowledge of the game and rules.
2. A coach should be a leader who is able to instruct and teach the various skills of softball.
3. Coaches must exhibit appropriate behavior: no swearing, smoking, drinking, or drugs.
4. Coaches must always offer proper treatment of players. Exhibit a positive attitude, be encouraging, and do not threaten participants.
5. Coaches are expected to maintain good relations with players and parents.
6. Coaches must attend coaches’ meetings.
7. Coaches must attend a coaches’ clinic at least once every two years.
8. All players on each team must be contacted by their coaches by May 1st — no exceptions. No practices are to be held before this date. Practices are to be held on approved fields.
9. Teams should attempt to practice at least once a week throughout the season.
10. Before all practices and games, a coach should lead players in warm-up and stretching. These should be done in a safe and isolated area, away from spectators and cars.
11. Before, during, and after all games and practices, coaches must never leave any player unattended.
12. All players must be given adequate playing time in each game. All players will bat in each game.
13. No coach is allowed to add or drop players at will. All players are assigned to teams by a representative of the Board of Directors.
14. A first-aid kit (provided by the league) is required at the field at all times during practices and games. First-aid procedures outlined by the NYSCA should be followed.
15. Coaches and players must respect the umpires and their decisions.
16. To promote good sportsmanship among players, the coach is responsible for the conduct of the players and their parents during league activities.
17. Coaches or a selected team reporter will be required to report game scores and highlights to the assigned league commissioner via email. The deadline for reporting those highlights for that week’s games will be Sundays at 5:00 PM.
18. The coach is responsible for the care of equipment during the season and for turning in all equipment at the end of the season.
19. Coaches are to help with the set-up and break-down of playing fields as well as with any championships or tournaments. Coaches of the home team are required to rake the pitcher’s mound and batters box after every game. All coaches will rake the pitcher’s mound and the batter’s box after every practice.
20. Coaches are encouraged to participate in any fundraisers.
21. Coaches must adhere to all league rules. A verbal warning will be given on a first offense, and a coach will be asked to meet with the Board for further action on a second offense.
22. Coaches must secure a signed waiver for themselves and all volunteers.
23. All teams are expected to have at least two adults present at all games and practices.
24. In the Junior and Senior divisions, coaches should encourage pitchers to have no more than a three-foot arc on their pitches from the point of release.
25. This is a teaching league. All girls should be given opportunities to learn the fundamentals and play at each position both in practice and in games.
26. The Board my change or revise these guidelines at its discretion.
